Helsinki-based biofore company UPM has opened a state-of-the-art Materials Recovery Facility in Shotton, designed to achieve the highest recovery rates in the UK of 99 per cent. “Today, the Finnish forest industry is a prime example of an industry utilizing and actively developing cleaner processes” said Pekka Huhtaniemi, Ambassador of Finland to the UK, at the official opening at UPM’s Shotton paper mill. Siân Lewis is UK's representative in Foreign Correspondents' Programme
Siân Lewis has already gained plenty of international experience. Being raised in Spain and having studied in Italy for a year, she hopes the Foreign Correspondents’ Programme will get her acquainted with Finland and Scandinavia. Study: For development cooperation, Finns would invest in education
Finns’ attitudes concerning development cooperation have become more positive than before. Almost one in four would increase appropriations for development cooperation.Finns are famously proud of education and aware of the importance of education and know-how to societal development. It is therefore not surprising that education is seen as a sector in which Finland’s development cooperation should invest the most. Read more

Music Centre tunes up for grand opening
Central Helsinki gained a new landmark building in the spring of 2011 – one that comes with high expectations. The long-awaited Music Centre is preparing for its grand opening in early September.
