After taking the Edinburgh Festival Fringe by storm last August, FORK – the Finnish rock a cappella group – make their debut in the UK capital at the London A Cappella Festival on Friday 13 January.
Formed in 1996 by three theatre students, Mia Hafrén, Silva Lillrank (who was replaced by vocalist Anna Asunta in 2010) and Jonte Ramsten, plus police cadet Kasper Ramström, FORK justifiably claim to have reinvented the art of a cappella. Their shows not only feature world-class vocals, but also theatrical stagecraft, fabulous costumes and state-of-the-art stage production.
But most of all - FORK ROCK! Their repertoire consists of contemporary covers and clever arrangements, which include their rousing ‘Gaga’ medley, the angelic harmonies of Coldplay’s Viva La Vida and an immaculate rendition of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody.
Every sound heard by the audience – from pristine vocals to rock guitar riffs and powerful basslines – is produced live on stage; there are no backing tapes or hidden singers! And the whole package is wrapped up in a glamorous presentation, delivered with FORK’S trademark wit and humour.
FORK have released several albums back home in Finland, the most recent being Pink Noise Live, available in the UK now on iTunes. Since their live debut, they have appeared at numerous events, ranging from the New Year’s Party at Senate Square in Helsinki, which was televised live, and the Helsinki Pride Festival to the Monte Carlo Film Festival and SoJam Festival in Raleigh, USA, as well as shows in Dubai, New York, St Petersburg and Stockholm, to name but a few.
Regularly selling out their concerts in Scandinavia, FORK made their UK debut last August when they brought their Pink Noise by FORK production to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and rapidly became the talk of the town, winning rave reviews and standing ovations galore.
Now London has a chance to see what all the fuss was about and witness the act that has reinvented a cappella, when FORK perform at King’s Place on Friday 13th January 2012. Their champagne sparkle and irresistible party attitude will be the perfect antidote to any New Year hangover!
