Unpicking social conventions - Pilvi Takala's 'Breaching Experiments' in Sheffield

Over the past decade, Finnish artist Pilvi Takala has developed a body of work which unpicks those conventions created within micro-social environments. 'Breaching Experiments' brings together several of Takala’s recent film based works as well as two performances to take place during the exhibition, soon to open in the Site Gallery, Sheffield. Markus Kåhre's 'No Title' at Liverpool Biennial

Leading and emerging artists have been commissioned to make permanent and temporary public artworks, as well as long-term community-based projects. Works by over 60 international artists unfold across the city in its major galleries and a range of sites. Markus Kåhre's 'The Unexpected Guest' explores notions of hospitality. Read more

Nordic club night JA JA JA returns - on stage the electronic duo Phantom

After a much-needed summer break, the wonderful Nordic club night JA JA JA is set to return to The Lexington in London for yet another showcase of the most interesting up-and-comers the Nordic region has to offer at the moment. World Design Capital Helsinki hosts a record amount of events in September

During September World Design Capital Helsinki 2012 is livelier and more international than ever before. Approximately 200 events, which are predominantly free-of-charge, will delight visitors in Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa, Kauniainen and Lahti. The central events in Helsinki include the Everyday Discoveries  – International Design House Exhibition, Helsinki Design Week, the Habitare Fair and the finale at the Pavilion. Read more

The theme of the OKFestival, to be held in Helsinki next week, is "Open Knowledge in Action".

OKFestival, the major international open knowledge event of the year, has released the full programme of its festival week, themed "Open Knowledge in Action". The festival, taking place in Helsinki 17-22 September, is also a kickstart in Finland joining the Open Government Partnership. Read more
