Helsinki-based tango musician Mikko Helenius will be performing in the UK in October for four dates with Argentina's finest tango singer Martín Alvarado.
The dates are part of a 12-date tour by Alvarado who has been working with Helenius, who studied at the Sibelius Academy, for ten years. They have performed together many times all over Finland and the UK, including at one of the most important tango music festivals in the world there, Maailmantango-festivaali, in Tampere, where they are due to give a concert in September.
Finland is where Alvarado had his first major career break in 2003. He was invited to perform in Finland after being spotted by two Finnish tourists singing in the street in Barcelona in 2002.
A year later he went to work in Tampere and news of his talent quickly spread. Within two months of arriving there, he was performing with the Tampere Philharmonia Orchestra. He has been performing with Finland's most talented tango musicians ever since.
