Celebrating Finland in its 100th year

25.10.2017–28.1.2018 Tove Jansson 1914–2001
Dulwich Picture Gallery, London

150 works, including a selection of self-portraits and paintings never seen before in the UK will reintroduce Jansson as an artist of exceptional breadth and talent, and provide an insightful overview of the key stages of her prolific career. More information

15.11.2017–4.2.2018 Gallen-Kallela exhibition
National Gallery, London

For the first time in the UK, this exhibition unites all four of the artist’s depictions of the lake. They will be displayed side by side in the order he painted them; demonstrating the gradual shift of the composition from an observed, naturalistic landscape towards a highly stylised and abstracted image. The paintings feature alongside other works by the artist, showing the significance of this early Nordic modernist landscape. More information

6.12.2017 Independence Day 100 - Millennium Bridge
Pitcher and Piano, Newcastle 

With the kind cooperation of Gateshead Council and Newcastle City Council, the Millennium Bridge will be lit up in Blue and White to mark Finland's 100th anniversary! Informal event is being set up in Newcastle by local Finns for the evening of Wednesday the 6th.They have arranged limited space for Finns, families and friends to gather in the Pitcher and Piano on Newcastle Quayside overlooking the Millennium Bridge to celebrate the lighting up, admire the view and toast the occasion. 9.12.2017 Finnish Saturday School in Cardiff’s Independence Day Party
Capel Salem, Canton, Cardiff

After the normal class from 10.30 to 11.30am, Santa Claus will bring surprises to the children. The doors open for the guests and the people of Korvatunturi at 11.30am. The party starts 12pm and there will be Finnish Christmas food, musical performances and programme for the children. The party ends 2pm. We warmly welcome all Finns in Wales, friends of Finland, and students of the Finnish School to join us in celebrating the 100-year-old Finland! 9.12.2017 Finnish Tango event
Southbank Centre, Clore Ballroom,  London 1pm - 2.30pm.

Learn Finnish tango, or Fintango in an afternoon of free dancing and music. Fintango is an established variation of the Argentine tango, following the rhythms of Ballroom tango, and was one of the most popular music forms for decades in Finland. Finnish tango king 2014 Teemu Roivainen and his band will perform traditional Finnish tangos. Free family event. More information
