A hand opens, turns … an old man’s hand, whose lines echo
the criss-crossed patterns of ski-tracks. Veteran soldier-skiers
of the Winter War take part in an annual skiing competition.
The Skiers tells the story in a handful of words and a few
telling images. The result is a celebration of old age, the joy
of life, and the tough endurance of the Finnish spirit.
Directed by John Webster, 2006.
The Skiers is part of VOYAGES - a season of contemporary European documentaries.
This film is shown after Romanian/French film titled The Great Communist Bank Robbery.
