Journalists would bring transparency from Finland to Africa

Just short of twenty African journalists made visits to key elements of Finland’s success: education, business, information technology, good governance, crisis management as well as water and forestry expertise. The purpose of the media visit, organised by the Development Communications Group at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs together with the Embassy of Finland in London, was to ponder together the ingredients that give rise to sustainable development. Team Finland awarded with eight medals from WorldSkills 2011

World's largest skill-oriented competition for young people came to an end last Sunday in London. TeamFinland, the national team, celebrated at the end with 5 silver and 3 bronze medals! "The good result proves that the quality of Finnish vocational training is world-class", says Timo Lankinen, the Director General of the Finnish National Board of Education and the Chairman of the Board of Skills Finland. Back to nature begins early           

The chance to get your hands dirty is also a chance to learn. That’s part of the philosophy at a “forest daycare” on the edge of Helsinki, encouraging skills and values that stem from the Finnish love of nature. Finland is famous for its classroom performance; the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) have repeatedly ranked Finnish children as top performers in school. Streets ahead - listen to the sound world of Design Capital Helsinki

The multiple sounds of the World Design Capital 2012 can now be listened online. Although the urban environment of Helsinki includes buildings that divide opinions, classic neighbourhoods, lush parks and the seashore surrounding all of this, it also includes noise, humming and music created by residents inspired by their surroundings. The thirteen different songs that have been chosen to represent the sound world of Helsinki reveal a vibrant and intriguing music scene in which the high level of expertise and diversity of music produced can, considering the size of the city, be considered surprising even on a global scale.
