2012 Presidential election - advance voting in the UK

Finnish citizens eligible to vote in the 2012 presidential election can cast their votes January 11-14 and, in a potential second round, January 25-28. There are eight advance polling stations in the United Kingdom: Birmingham, Brighton, Bristol, Edinburgh, London, Manchester, Newcastle and St Albans. Read more in English, suomeksi or på svenska

World Design Capital Helsinki revs up

Helsinki is World Design Capital in 2012. It’s an exciting time to pose questions and seek fresh perspectives. Finland is best known for great design in furniture, glassware and architecture, you might think that they’d form the focus for the year’s events, too. They don’t. WDC Helsinki 2012 looks at design from a fresh perspective, showing how design is about more than individual objects or fashion – design is everywhere. Read more

FORK make London debut             

After taking the Edinburgh Festival Fringe by storm last August, FORK – the Finnish rock a cappella group – make their debut in the UK capital at the London A Cappella Festival on Friday 13January. Their shows not only feature world-class vocals, but also theatrical stagecraft, fabulous costumes and state-of-the-art stage production. New Honorary Consuls appointed in Southampton and Liverpool

Lawyers Christina Tolvas-Vincent and John Gibson have been installed as honorary consuls of Finland in Southampton and Liverpool respectively. Tolvas-Vincent and Gibson were appointed to their new roles by Erkki Tuomioja, the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Finland. Read more

Open house at the Embassy on 11 January

To mark the first day of advance voting of the 2012 presidential elections in Finland, the Embassy will have an 'open house' day on Wed, 11 Jan. Five tours around the Embassy building will be organised (at 9:30, 10:30, 11:30, 13:30 and 14:30) - no need to register in advance but places are limited!
