UN requests Finland to deploy two military observers to advance preparation team of UN observer mission in Syria

The UN Secretariat has requested Finland to detach two military observers from the Middle East monitoring mission of the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO) to advance preparation team of the observer mission to be established in Syria. On the basis of the policy outline adopted by the President of the Republic and the Cabinet Committee on Foreign and Security Policy on 13 April, Finland is getting prepared to inform the UN that the Finnish observers are available for the advance preparation team. Any future participation decisions will be handled by the President of the Republic and the Cabinet Committee on Foreign and Security Policy.
