Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja will visit New York on 2-3 July. During his visit Minister Tuomioja will speak on behalf of Finland at the High-Level Segment of the Conference on the international Arms Trade Treaty. He will also attend the UN Economic and Social Council's (ECOSOC) High-Level Segment Ministerial Roundtable that focuses on "The new ILO recommendation on Social Protection Floors".
During his visit Foreign Minister Tuomioja will meet with representatives of the African group of countries and those of the so called ALBA group including Antigua and Barbuda, Bolivia, Dominica, Ecuador, Cuba, Nicaragua, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Venezuela. In addition to the international Arms Trade Treaty, the discussion topics with the above countries include multilateral cooperation, sustainable development on the basis of Rio+20, the climate change and Finland's campaign for entering the Security Council.
Foreign Minister Tuomioja will also meet with the other introducing countries of the UN Arms Trade Treaty besides Finland; Argentina, Australia, Costa Rica, Japan, Kenya and the UK in order to boost the negotiations for the Treaty together.
