“The ontology of wet painting explores the material, natural and conceptual fluidities. A wet painting is energy as much as method.”
“Between whiles that encounter”, the title chosen by the artist for the show, directly refers to Nelimarkka’s interest in the idea of slow advancing as well as the continuous presence of the artist during the duration of an exhibition.
Josefina Nelimarkka's practice investigates natural processes; in her paintings and installations, the artist aims at producing imaginary gardens or landscapes and bringing the outside world in a direct dialogue with the contemporary art practice. She is concerned with the seasonal changes of potentiality as well as looking for material and metaphysical equations in the moment of making.
Considered one of the most interesting emerging Nordic artists, Nelimarkka is currently concluding her MA in painting at the Royal College of Art in London, participating in the institution’s degree show from the 26 of June until the 3 of July.
Nelimarkka’s works have been exhibited extensively in London and Helsinki, recent exhibition included a solo presentation at Sinne Gallery in Helsinki and a site-specific project at the London Art Fair.
