Sini Majuri, Tales On Glass Exhibition

Tales on glass exhibition shows fairytales that are captures between layers of glass. The logic of dreams and surrealism are the main inspirations for the exhibition. The storylines come together from bits and pieces that slowly evolve like songs or poems. The stories are blown between layers of glass by using a century-old Swedish Graal technique that is mixed up with modern 3D-design. The layered images are created layer by layer during a slow process that takes months.

Sini Majuri is a contemporary glass artist from Finland. It’s important for her to combine narrative illustrations and graal technique. She have studied glass art in Aalto University of Helsinki and University of Lapland. In 2016 Majuri represents Finland in European Glass Festival held in European Capital Of Culture 2016, Wroclaw. Majuri has participated in approximately 30 exhibitions in Finland, Canada, China, the Netherlands, and the USA, including: The Flying Boat, Galleria G12, Helsinki, 2016 – solo exhibitions; Taos Glass Expo 2015, New Mexico, USA.

Majuri’s works have been published in many international contemporary art magazines, such as: Urban Glass, USA; Glass Art Magazine, USA; and Designboom, Italy. She has received a number of awards, including: Taos Glass Art – Taos Art Glass Invitational, New Mexico, USA, 2014; A-Design Awards, Venice, 2016 and Hempel Awards China Fashion Week. Her works can be found in public collections, including: the Finnish Glass Museum, Riihimäki; University of Helsinki, Helsinki; DAFA, New Mexico.

She gathers much of her inspiration from old Scandinavian fairytales and beliefs. In 2013 she started to combine the traditional graal-technique with 3D design. Many of her graal works are surrealistic stories captured inside blown glass. Majuri works can be seen as both fairytales and cartoons. She lives and works in Helsinki.
