Emmi Itäranta studied Drama at the University of Tampere and subsequently worked as a columnist, theatre critic, dramaturge, scriptwriter and press officer.
Her first novel, Memory of Water, has its origins in course work which she did when studying for an MA in creative writing at the University of Kent. The Finnish version, Teemestarin kirja, won the Sci-fi and Fantasy Literary Contest organised by the Finnish publisher Teos.
She will talk about the process of writing two versions of her work in different languages and how this can actually help the writing process.
